We track broken pages, not shoppers
404Guard records broken URLs and traffic sources. It does not collect customer identity or use 404 data for advertising.

Storefront visits
When the app embed is on and Shopify's page type is 404, the embed sends the missing path, an optional query string, the referrer, and a timestamp. 404Guard aggregates that into a broken URL, hit counts, a sample of the original path, referrer type, referrer host, referrer path, and daily totals.
A visit is classified as human, known bot, suspected bot, or unknown so the dashboard can hide scanner noise. The raw user agent is used for that classification and is not stored as a profile.
404Guard keeps 12 months of aggregated history: broken URLs, hit counts, traffic sources, and daily totals. Individual page views are not stored. Customer identity, cookies, cart data, and IP addresses are not collected.
What we do not collect
- Customer name, email, phone, address, or Shopify customer ID
- Cookies, cart contents, or checkout data
- IP addresses in application storage
- Session replay, fingerprints, or cross-site tracking
- Advertising use of 404 data. We do not sell visitor data.
Cloudflare may see an IP address as part of delivering the request. 404Guard does not write that address into its database.
Merchant account
For the store that installs the app we store the shop domain, an encrypted Shopify access token, monitoring and notification settings, and the email used for alerts when Shopify provides one or you enter one. The access token is not kept in plaintext. Uninstall marks the shop inactive and removes the token. A Shopify shop data deletion request deletes that store's rows.
Customer privacy webhooks are implemented. Because no customer profile is stored, those requests do not erase a customer record. They are acknowledged.
Public tools
The redirect checker and URL status checker fetch a public URL you submit, from 404Guard's servers, and show the status and redirect chain. They do not store the URL as a merchant record. Abuse limits are kept in memory for a short window and are not a visitor database.
