Getting started

404Guard records real visits to missing storefront URLs. It does not crawl the catalog. Nothing appears until someone requests a page that is not there.

Install

Install from Shopify Admin, or start at Install 404Guard and enter the store's myshopify.com domain. The app opens inside Admin. Navigation is Overview, 404s, Redirects, and Settings.

Turn monitoring on

Shopify leaves app embeds off after install. On the welcome screen, choose Enable 404Guard. That opens the theme editor with the 404Guard embed selected. Save the theme there. You do not edit Liquid. The full steps are in Enable monitoring.

Confirm a visit

1. Open your storefront and request a path that does not exist, such as /pages/404guard-test-page.
2. Return to Overview and choose Check monitoring if the status is not yet active.
3. The missing path shows up under Broken URLs needing attention after the visit is recorded.

Overview starts with the last 30 days: 404 visits, broken URLs, issues fixed, and redirects created. Human visits are the default. Bot visits are counted separately.
