Understanding 404s

How 404Guard groups visits, sources, and statuses for a broken Shopify URL.

Each issue is a path on your store, such as /products/winter-jaket. A trailing slash, a fragment, and common marketing parameters are folded into that same issue when Ignore marketing query parameters is on, which is the default.

What the list shows

  • Visits for the range you select.
  • Trend compared with the previous period.
  • Last seen.
  • Top source, such as Google, an internal page, or Direct.
  • Status: Open, Redirected, Ignored, or Resolved.

Open an issue for the visit chart, sources, and internal referring pages. Internal pages are links on your own store. Those are the ones you can edit in a menu, collection description, or blog post. The source link opens the storefront page in a new tab.

Statuses

  • Open: visitors are hitting it and you have not closed it.
  • Redirected: a Shopify redirect was created from 404Guard.
  • Ignored: hidden from the default open list. Hits still add up. You can restore it.
  • Resolved: you fixed the source link, or otherwise closed it, without a 404Guard redirect.

A resolved URL opens again after 3 new human visits. The issue then says This issue has reappeared.
